Ten American Red Cross volunteers and staff responded to an apartment fire at Las Cimas apartments on Fredericksburg Road near Wurzbach. Eleven units were affected; we expect to serve the needs of approximately thirty (30) residents. Our disaster action team will assess the situation and provide assistance to the affected families. Depending on damage suffered in each apartment and their personal resources, this assistance might include food, clothing, and other emergency needs. Fortunately, the complex has sufficient units to accommodate all displaced residents. As always, disaster volunteers will follow-up to meet additional identified needs.

The urgent need for financial contributions continues to support these disaster relief responses. The San Antonio Area Chapter services an average of over 400 fire calls per year, and the period from November through March is our busiest for home and apartment fires. We urge all citizens to take special care over the New Year’s holiday to prevent fires, including potential outdoor fires caused by fireworks.

All disaster assistance provided by the American Red Cross is free to those being assisted and is made possible due to community donations. New volunteers to expand our 24/7 disaster action response teams are needed year-round as well. Give a gift this season that helps your neighbors year round; go to www.saredcross.org to contribute money or find more information on how to become a Red Cross volunteer.
