The San Antonio Area Chapter helps people in emergencies every day. Volunteers are involved in every aspect of the Red Cross mission and constitute 96 percent of our workforce! Our vital work is made possible by people just like you who want to make a difference in the community. The American Red Cross needs you!
As a volunteer at the San Antonio Area Chapter, you could:
· Provide a family displaced by a house fire in the middle of the night with a safe place to sleep
· Set up a shelter and serve meals to disaster victims
· Staff our 24-hour emergency call center and deliver urgent messages to military members around the world
· Support our Service to the Armed Forces at Wilford Hall Medical Center or Brooke Army Medical Center
· Teach people how to save lives with first aid and CPR training, babysitter’s training, and lifeguard training
· Help in our office to keep our daily business running smoothly
· And more!
Whether you want to volunteer a few hours a month, once a year, or on an ongoing basis, the Red Cross needs your help! Click here to read about available volunteer opportunities.
Follow these steps to become a Red Cross volunteer:
Step 1: Complete the San Antonio Area Chapter application. No special skills required! The Red Cross needs people with all kinds of talents, skill levels and backgrounds. If you need training, we’ll provide it. You can also request an application by calling (210) 582-1925 or (210) 582-1923. Application can be emailed to lopeza@saredcross.org or faxed to (210) 242-6589.
Step 2: Once your application has been reviewed, you will be contacted for an interview and to register for a Red Cross orientation, which includes an overview of our history, mission, values, key services, organization structure and our commitments to give you background knowledge and understanding of the organization. You will also be asked to complete additional forms including consent for a criminal background check.
